Hurricane Preparation Kit – Be Ready to Go, Just In Case
Electricity Express is more than just saving electricity at home.
Hurricane season means the start of dangerous, unpredictable weather for us every year. Say “Katrina”, and nearly everyone pictures flooded New Orleans and people stranded on rooftops. Hurricanes are one of the most powerful forces of nature on our planet, and the damage they unleash on our cities and towns is unbelievable. Hurricane preparation kit – Be ready to go, just in case
Of course, a hurricane will either come or it won’t. Even so, are you ready for one? Its path is very hard to predict and capable of changing at the last moment. Personally I’d rather be safe than sorry. Who wants to search for water with a category 5 storm on top of you and the supermarkets sold out? Gather together some items now that will make life easier later. Then put them away somewhere, and hopefully, you’ll never need them. But if disaster hits, you’ll be ready.

Must-Have Items for Your Hurricane Preparation Kit
- Non-perishable food: Leave out anything that can spoil and instead think “canned”. Check the dates first, and don’t forget a good can opener (not electric). You’re going to want a week’s supply for everyone at least.
- Food for the pets: Throw in some bowls, too.
- Utensils and plates: Include forks, knives, spoons, etc. It’s up to you whether you choose real plates or paper, but you may not have water to wash with for quite a while.
- Baby supplies: Plenty of diapers, wipes, formula and other items are a must.
- Gas in the car: While always a good idea, keeping your gas tank at least 1/2 full this time of year is especially smart. Lines at the pump and hurricanes are just inevitable.
- Flashlights and tons of batteries: It’s hard to get anything done when you can’t see anything, to begin with.
- A large cooler: Put all your supplies in here and forget about the cardboard box, which will fall apart in the rain.
- Extra cell phones and chargers: Put your supplies next to an outlet, and keep a few cellphones charging next to them. If you have to run, you’ll have everything together. Remember that in case of emergency TEXTING is better than calling.
- Medicine: Pharmacies will be closed when trouble strikes, so don’t be left without anything as important as a prescription or even nonprescription medicine.
- Cash: Credit card networks may not be functioning for days, let alone the banks, so have spare cash. Get enough to pay for gas, motel stays, etc.
- An old-fashioned map: If GPS goes down, how else are you going to find your way?
